One Step at a Time

June 15, 2010

Once Janet and Dianne started showing up at the gym day in and day out, everyone wanted to help them reach their goal. Everyone was so nice. It had taken some time, but we had proven ourselves and people respected us for that. Now that we had our workouts down, we decided to mix it up with taking some classes. We thought about taking water aerobics but everyone in there looked overweight. We may be overweight, but the goal was never to stay that way.

The way to get through an excercise class is…NEVER LOOK IN THE MIRROR! If you just sneak one little peek then you will be overwhelmed with the thought that you don’t belong here. We would walk in and find what we would call our body doubles. These are people who had the bodies we wanted. We would then stand behind them and look at them in the mirror. There were many times that we couldn’t keep up, but the instructors would tell us to just keep moving…something was better than nothing.

During these days we would be so tired and hurt in places that we didn’t know could hurt. Janet told Dianne one day that if she didn’t know better she would swear she had boob muscles. What got us through more than anything was each other. We pushed, encouraged and complained together. We saw our time on the treadmill every day as therapy.

During this time Janet lost over 80 pounds and Dianne went from a size 14 to a size 6. We felt great!!!

But then life happened. Weddings, babies, sickness, death…our time at the gym after 3 years of being so faithful started to slip away. And soon it was replaced with a bowl of ice cream or a cinnamon roll. Now after two years of neglecting ourselves, we are just about where we started so long ago.

For some reason it is harder this time. Maybe because we know what it was like to feel so good and yet we also know how much work that took and we just let it go. We are trying again. One step at a time. Come join us and let us know how your journey is going.

This week’s goal…start drinking more water again.

Thanks…two days in a row of going to the gym…I’m happy once I’m there it’s just the getting out the door to go.

You’ll own that journey… one day at a time. 🙂 Found you via your daughter on twitter today. Wanted to stop by and say hello from Orlando!

The nice thing about journeys… we just keep moving ~ some days forward, some days back, but always moving. And eventually, we ‘get there.’
